Every year, MSI doles out its latest gaming hardware at the IFA tech show in Berlin, but this year is a bit different. Not only has IFA 2020 gone virtual because of the pandemic, but MSI is also giving gaming a rest this year (for the most part) with its new portfolio of work laptops.

  • The company has introduced a new work-oriented range of laptops called the Summit series.

  • MSI also refreshed other existing laptops.

The Taiwanese company announced its entry into the world of business laptops with its new Summit series machines. MSI also expanded its laptop range aimed at content creators — the Prestige and Modern series — with new models and announced a new Stealth series gaming laptop with the latest Intel processor.

The new Summit series is one of the first to be powered by Intel’s latest 11th Gen processors. The design of the laptops keeps things thin and minimalistic. The hardware makes them ready to take on remote work complete with a TPM security chip, IR web camera for face recognition, fingerprint reader, Thunderbolt 4 ports, microSD card reader, and more. The laptops also feature touchscreen capabilities and an “AI noise cancellation” function that MSI claims can eliminate background noise during video conferencing meetings.

There are a total of four models in the new MSI Summit series: Summit E15, Summit E14, Summit B15, and Summit B14. The E series MSI Summit laptops are the more premium of the lot, topping out with 4K UHD displays, PCIe Gen 4 NVMe SSDs, and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650Ti graphics. Meanwhile, the B series Summit machines are more grounded with their FHD screens and Intel Iris Xe graphics.

Then there’s also the Summit E13 Flip which has a display that can flex in different directions, turning the laptop into a tablet, tent, or canvas. MSI hasn’t announced any specifications for the Summit E13 Flip as of writing this article, but we’re guessing it’s also getting the latest processors from Intel.

In its Prestige and Modern series, MSI announced a total of five new laptops updated with the 11th Gen Intel Core i7 processor and new colors, including Urban Silver, Pure White, Carbon Gray, Rose Pink, Blue Stone, and Beige Mousse.

The new Prestige 14 Evo, as the name suggests, is a certified Intel Evo branded laptop. It bears an 11th Gen processor, promises a long-lasting battery life, and has a thin and light form-factor. It also gets Intel Iris Xe graphics, a 14-inch FHD display, 16GB LPDDR4x RAM, 1 NVMe Gen 4 SSD slot, a fingerprint reader, an IR camera, and Thunderbolt 4 ports.

Specs for the new MSI Modern 15 and Modern 14 laptops remain pretty much the same, except that they also get an option for Nvidia GeForce MX450 graphics, DDR4-3200 RAM, and an HD webcam instead on an IR one.

MSI also claimed the constantly bouncing crown of the world’s thinnest gaming laptop in the 15-inch size category. The new MSI Stealth 15M features an aluminum chassis and is impressively thin at just 15.95mm. It’s also pretty lightweight for a gaming laptop weighing only 1.78kg.

The MSI Stealth 15M is equipped with an 11th Gen Intel processor, GeForce RTX 2060/GTX 1660Ti graphics, DDR4-3200 memory, one NVMe Gen 4 SSD slot, RGB backlit gaming keyboard, and Thunderbolt 4 ports.

There is no word on the price of any of the new MSI laptops. However, the company has confirmed that its new Summit, Prestige, and Modern series laptops will all go on sale starting October 2020.

We’ll update this article when we know more about these upcoming laptops.
