The Nokia 8.3 hasn’t enjoyed the quickest time to market, first being announced back in March and taking its time to actually launch around the world. Now, HMD Global has announced that the phone is finally available in the US.

The phone is exclusively available in the US via Verizon and is actually called the Nokia 8 V 5G UW. Yep, it’s a mouthful. In any case, this Verizon variant differs from the standard Nokia 8.3 in a few areas.

For one, the Nokia 8 V 5G UW offers mmWave connectivity too, in addition to the expected sub-6Ghz 5G option. Another difference is that the Verizon model is only available with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage, while the global variant offers both 6GB/64GB and 8GB/128GB flavors.

What else should you know?

Otherwise, you can expect the same old specs here. That means a Snapdragon 765G chipset, a 6.81-inch FHD+ LCD screen (20:9), a 4,500mAh battery with 18W charging, and a 24MP selfie camera in a punch-hole cutout.

Speaking of cameras, the Nokia 8 V 5G UW (that name doesn’t get easier to say) has a quad rear camera setup headlined by a 64MP f/1.8 primary shooter and a 12MP ultra-wide lens with a 120 degree field of view. HMD is also going with a pair of 2MP sensors to bump up the camera count, featuring a 2MP depth sensor and 2MP macro lens.

Other notable features include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner embedded in the power button, a dedicated (and remappable) Assistant button, a 3.5mm port, NFC, and Android 10. Staying with software, HMD is promising two Android version upgrades and 18 months of security upgrades.

We’re quite perplexed about the promise of a year and a half of security patches though, as we’ve seen other brands like Samsung and OnePlus go the extra mile and offer support for three years. Furthermore, the company promised three years of security patches for the global Nokia 8.3 anyway.

Still intrigued by the phone? Then you can grab the device for $699 when it goes on sale on November 12.
