LG is a device maker known for its willingness to take risks, but arguably its biggest blemish is its reputation for neglecting older devices. Now, the company is seemingly changing its tune.
LG has announced (h/t: Phonearena) that a number of its older premium phones in Korea will receive the same skin as the LG Velvet. The decision was prompted by users’ comments made via support channels, it added. The news also suggests LG is changing its UI naming scheme, dropping the UX moniker in favor of Velvet UI which pairs with its new product identity strategy.
Velvet UI includes new volume adjustment settings, notification bar color tweaking, and additional call notification settings. As for the devices that will receive the update, LG lists these six flagships:
LG V50 ThinQ
LG V50S ThinQ
LG V40 ThinQ
LG V35 ThinQ
LG G8 ThinQ
LG G7 ThinQ
The LG G7 ThinQ and LG V35 ThinQ both launched back in mid-2018, so hopefully, this signals a positive change in how LG dishes out device updates in the future.
We asked LG whether they planned to offer this update to phones in other markets, but the company was only able to confirm Korean availability right now.
If your device didn’t make the cut though, LG is also set to update a number of other devices to Android 10. So hopefully your phone is on the list.
