  • Google Play Music’s Android app is finally shutting down for some users.
  • The app now bars users from accessing their content and asks them to transfer their data to YouTube Music.
  • Play Music’s web portal is now also inaccessible for some.

Google Play Music is finally shutting down for several users across the world. The long-standing music streaming service is barring users from accessing content from its app and web portals.

First spotted by Android Police, the Android app is prompting users to transfer their data to YouTube Music as “Google Play Music is no longer available.” Some are also unable to access the Play Music website. Users on Reddit have also confirmed that the service has been mothballed.

It’s not really a surprise though. Google first announced Play Music’s death in August in favor of YouTube Music. The news left users scrambling to find a replacement, although many Android Authority readers have since boarded the YouTube Music train, albeit reluctantly.

Although Google confirmed that users in New Zealand and South Africa would lose access to Play Music as early as September, Android Authority staff in South Africa still have access to the Play Music Android app and web portals. Staff in the UK and India also report that they still have access. Some users claim that the service is still available on some devices, but not on others.
